Arabian Nights Dinner Attraction
by Philip Chien
If you like horses and dinner theater, you’ll love the Arabian Nights. It’s a dinner theater attraction in Orlando, near Disney World. The show features dozens of horses and performers in a well-choreographed show while you have dinner.
The show certainly isn’t cheap - the retail price is $52.90 for adults and $29 for children. For a family of four that comes to almost $200 once taxes and tips are added. There are occasionally discount coupons available at local hotels and tourist newsletters.
You get your choice of a strip steak, chicken breast, chopped steak with gravy, pasta primavera, or chicken tenders. Our one regret from our experience is the size of the portions; they certainly could have been larger. The dinner also comes with rolls, salad, desert, and beer, wine, soda, coffee and tea. Alcoholic drinks are extra.
The 24,975 square foot (2,320 square meter) performing arena is rather impressive, roughly half the size of a football field. It’s surrounded by the bleachers with the dining tables. In addition to the normal bleachers there’s handicapped seating by the stage, and an enclosed VIP room. The VIP room is especially suitable if anybody in your party has allergies.
One option we really enjoyed is the VIP pre-show. For an additional $15 you get to go into the arena before the performance and meet the performers and horses up close. It’s especially exciting if your kids love horses. But be aware that you’re going to be walking on a rough surface covered with wood chips. Wear closed toe shoes and if somebody’s in a wheelchair it will be rough for the person pushing the chair. One friend found it easier to pull his wife’s wheelchair backwards instead of pushing it and said he certainly got his exercise that day.
The hour and a half show features skits from many different cultures - chariot races from ancient Rome, an American Western square dance on horseback, a Native American riding a horse decorated in day-glow paint, a circus act and even a comedy skit. The performers are rapidly changing costumes between acts so somebody you see as a sultan in one skit may be a cowboy in another. It’s family fun entertainment which the kids will love and the adults will enjoy too.
